The Leica 50mmf1.5 Summarit was Leica’s super fast 50mm, and
is the predecessor to the legendary Summilux.
My particular lens is an early screw mount model, made in either 1949 or
1950.
As you can see from the picture below that was shot at f1.5,
it is softer wide open and also has a traditional Leica rendering to the
picture – the details and bokeh are a classic style, even though it was shot on
the NEX. When looking at the out of focus part of the picture, it would be easy to convince someone that this photo was taken 50 years ago, but the modern graffiti dates the picture as recent. This picture was initially shot
in colour and later converted to black and white.
It is quite a fun lens to shoot as the classic feeling of
the photos is a very nice look, and it is also quite sharp when stopped down,
even when compared to modern lenses.
